The “Don Millard Scholarship” is awarded to students from The Geelong College, Sacred Heart College and St Joseph’s College Geelong who are interested in the pipe organ and church music.
This scholarship was established in honour Don Millard who taught at The Geelong College, Sacred Heart and St Joseph’s Geelong and was the organist at St David’s for 19 years.
The scholarship is to encourage young people in their appreciation of the pipe organ and church music over Years 10, 11 and 12.
The scholarship is awarded by a small panel of three persons made up of representatives from the applicant’s school and St David’s.
A certificate of recognition is awarded to the successful student upon completion of their musical studies so that their work would be recognised by the Conservatorium of Music in Melbourne (or elsewhere).
The course would be taught through the student’s music department.

A formal application for will be sent out to applications and the scholarship will be awarded at the end of the third term of each year to the successful applicant for the forthcoming year.
Our first Don Millard Scholar – Alan Thomas
Alan Thomas graduated from The Geelong College playing piano, oboe and organ and is involved with three school bands and ensembles. Outside music, he enjoys computer programming, reading non-fiction, and studying French and Latin.
Tansy Pereira
College Co-Captain (2015) Tansy Pereira was the recipient of The E H Morrison Prize, the Theatre Studies Prize, the Principal’s Prize for the Captains of the School and Year 12 Merit Awards in Theatre Studies and French. She was also awarded School Honours for Chapel Music, String Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra, and School Colours for Stage Band.
Lucas Whittem

Lucas Whittem was the recipient of a Full Academic Scholarship for The Geelong College (2011-2016) and was awarded School Honours for Choir, String Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra. He has studied cello and piano, and currently studies organ and voice. He regularly contributes to the music of St David’s as part of an ongoing organ and vocal scholarship program. He is also part of the Windfire Chamber Choir with a separate vocal scholarship.
Lucas enjoys musical composition, graphic design, and playing field hockey. He is currently completing a Bachelor of Mechatronics Engineering at Deakin University.
Ebony Ballan
The first organ scholar from Sacred Heart College Geelong.
My name is Ebony Ballan and I am the Don Millard Organ Scholar at Sacred Heart College. Music is something I am very passionate about. I study VET Music and currently learn the piano as well as the organ. In the past I have also learnt violin. I am currently in year 11 and study a broad range of subjects, with the hope of having a career in the medical or building and design industries, while continuing my musical endeavours.
