On Wednesday, 2nd November, a major demonstration was held on the steps of the Geelong City Council building. It was organised by C.R.A.G., the Combined Refugee Action Group, and supported by Interfaith, the Geelong Inter-Church Social Justice Network, and the Greens. It was protesting about the continuing off-shore processing and indefinite detention of asylum seekers on Nauru and Manus Island, a policy which is supported by both of the major political parties. Protesters were particularly outraged about the Government’s recent announcement that even after these people were finally settled in a third country, they would NEVER be granted a visa of ANY kind to visit Australia. This would mean that some of them would never see members of their families again.
